The Learning Disability Qualifications are a set of qualifications appropriate to people who work in learning disability services.

At the bottom of the page is a file with short PowerPoint presentation about the new LDQ Induction award and how this fits with the CIS/NVQ etc.

Each LDQ qualification consists of units on particular topics. Each unit is a list of things a worker should know about that topic.

Learners gain credits by proving their learning and understanding through short assignments or tasks for each unit. When successfully achieved these assignments or tasks can be combined and collected to make up a full qualification.

LDQ awards are Related Vocational Qualifications – VRQs.

VRQs aim to shape a new worker’s training and development from their very first day in post. They bridge the gap between learning about a job and being assessed as competent to do that job (through the NVQ awards).

VRQs also enable experienced workers hoping to move on to new job roles, higher-level qualifications, or higher education.

LDQ is fully recognised and supported by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) the new regulation and inspectorate and Skills for Care (formally TOPSS) the workforce development body for social care.

Skills for Care Common Induction Standards

At the bottom of this page are two mapping tables for the existing/old LDAF Induction and Foundation units and the new Skills for Care Induction. These highlight where the gaps between the existing LDAF Induction and Foundation units and new Common Induction are. This is for reference as the existing LDAF units can continue to be used but new starters should now be registered on the Induction Award

LDAF awards for those supporting children who have learning disabilities – news update Oct 06

Plans to introduce a ‘Children’s route’ to LDAF qualifications have had to be put on hold temporarily.
The LDAF development project as a whole has moved from the Dept of Health to Skills for Care (SfC) during 2006. This is a very positive move for LDAF as a whole, but it has had an impact on the Children’s Award, since SfC are only involved with adult services.

The future of the LDAF Children’s Award now rests with the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC). CWDC are currently finalising their ‘Integrated Qualifications Strategy’ that will set out approved qualifications and career routes for the whole children’s sector. Until this is ready, CWDC cannot fund the development of any new qualifications.
This means that the drafted children’s LDAF units are now being held ready for further work as and when CWDC’s strategy allows.

In the meantime, there is regular communication with CWDC as their strategy progresses.

Many thanks to all who have helped so far in the development of LDAF Children’s Awards. We look forward to working with you again at some point in the future, and will keep you informed of progress.
